Madhuri Dixit is shaping up for her big comeback. How will the actress fare vis-a-vis the younger, fitter stars of today?
She was the original Bollywood bombshell who could hold her own in an industry of muscle men. But when ek-do-teen gal Madhuri Dixit got married, it was bye-bye films and hello babies. The actress, last seen in Devdas in 2002, will reportedly make her comeback next year in a Yash Chopra production. Age:
The age factor won't work against Madhuri, says fashion pro Namrata G. "While she won't be able to make it to number one again, she'll carve her own niche. Look at Demi Moore, Sharon Stone or Madonna. Age is just a number."
Looks/fitness:
According to actor Kulraj Randhawa, after two children, it will be hard for Madhuri to compete against single actors like Aishwarya Rai or Esha Deol, who've invested all their energies in acting and staying in shape. "So she'll have to tone up and then she'll look great," says Kulraj.
Dancing ability:
Madhuri's a brilliant dancer, declares dancer Madhu Natraj. "And she'll do well because of the experience she has. Madhuri's an intelligent performer and even if the films she gets aren't dance oriented, she'll do well."
Acting talent:
Actor Upendra would give her a five on five for her acting talent. "She's extremely talented actor and dancer. Madhuri's the typical Indian beauty and she was brilliant in Dil and the song Dhak, dhak.... She needs women-oriented roles. Although she's talented, she won't be able to the typical modern day roles," Upendra says.
Roles available:
Director Nagabharana says Madhuri should accept character roles instead of being content with playing the glam girl." The kind of roles she should look for? "Films like Tezab won't suit her now. A movie like Devdas, in which she portrays the mature woman is just perfect. And people will write such roles for her," he adds.
